<a href="#comment-27" rel="nofollow">@Bob </a>
You raise an excellent point, Bob. Maybe Israel urges to lose enough wars to justify the paranoia that worked so good for her fifty years ago. No one here thinks in terms of "we deserve justice although we're in power".

Sadly Avi I fear you are right. Not only is the Israeli problem (aka "the middle east problem") not well understood in the UK (nor I suspect anywhere else these days) the public have the distinct impression that the Israeli government deliberately set out to comit war crimes in the Gaza affair and is now adamantly refusing to own up to doing so.

In short where Israel was once pictured as small, beleagured and in constant threat from its Arab neighbours, it is now seen as an an intransigent, arrogant, bully which is perfectly happy to keep the Palestinians under a continual state of terror in the name of preserving its own security whilst land-grabbing shamelessly in the West Bank. The Israeli idea of diplomacy seems to be to negotiate in a state of denial, making Israel not part of the solution but part of the problem. Frankly even if we understood your government's paranoia it is nosomething we would want to share. Europe especially is only slowly realising that the real problems come from a resurgence of fundamentalism which frankly the continuing middle east problem has encouraged and now the two feed off each other.
