נתניהו אמר שאולי צריך ועדת חקירה, ברק אמר שאין מה לחקור, נתניהו אמר שאולי בעצם לא צריך. אפשר רק לנחש מה עומד מאחרי הספין הקטנטן הזה ומה בעצם נתניהו וברק רוצים אחד מהשני – לי עצמי אין שמץ של מושג.
אבל, אם כבר מדברים קצת על עופרת יצוקה, אפשר אולי לשאול אם יש משהו שהיה ראוי לחקור.

אז למה לישראל להתעסק עם אבידות האויב? את מי זה מעניין?
אני, למשל, חושב שהרבה יותר מעניין לחקור, ולפרסם בפומבי מה היו מטרות המבצע, וכיצד מודדים האם הן הושגו. נפלו טילים בבאר שבע. זה בסדר?
זה לא?
מה עושים כדי לשנות את המצב?
זה דומה למה שהיה בלבנון השניה? באיזה אופן?
מה נלמד מלבנון השניה וייושם בעופרת יצוקה?
מה עשה צבא היבשה של צה”ל?
מה עושה צה”ל עם העובדה שכבר ב-2006 הוכח שחיל אויר לבדו לא מסוגל לעצור ירי טילים?
למה צבא היבשה לא עשה בעצם כלום בעופרת יצוקה?
נתניהו, שהיה בכלל באופוזיציה בזמן עופרת יצוקה, פוחד מהשאלות האלה לא פחות מברק. נכון, תשובה לכל אחת מהשאלות לעיל תוכיח שחור על גבי לבן שברק שר בטחון גרוע מאין כמותו.
אבל, תשובה כזו תעלה את שאלת ההמשך: מה הממשלה הנוכחית מתכוננת לעשות כדי לשפר את המצב?
התשובה, חוששני, היא שהממשלה הנוכחית תעשה בדיוק מה שהיא עשתה בקשר למשבר המים: תגיד לאזרחים שלה ללכת ולחפש את החברים שלהם.

Uriel Lynn is a prominent Israeli capitalist. He is the presidents of The federation of Israeli chambers of commerce, had been a member of the Knesset for decades and an enthusiast defender of capitalism (he’s an hebrew article defending the rise of the Shekel and calling to abolish protectionism).

In a recent article, however, Lynn complains about the rich who don’t pay enough taxes. Not the most capitalistic opinion you’ve ever heard from Lynn. What could cause a capitalist to call for increased income tax?

Well, it is the government, of course, who had managed to trick the Israeli capitalist one more time.

As in most of the western world, the Israeli income tax is “progressive”. That is, the tax percentage increases with your income. for the first few Shekels you pay 10%, for the next few Shekels, you pay 20%, up to 58% of direct taxes (income tax, social security and mandatory health insurance combined).

Last year, the ‘capitalistic” goverment of Netanyahu has decreased taxes for one of the taxation levels, cuasing a little anomality (see the linked article for the exact numbers). Mr. Lynn, instead of calling for the abolition of direct taxes altogether, would settle for a little justice. “Justice”, when it comes to your relationship with your goverment, could be simply a cancellation of this tax cut. It’s a love-hate sort of relationship, and in case you didn’t know, you’re the one that finds himself eye folded and tightened to a low bench.

Defenders of capitalism in Israel – and Lynn is a respected leader of this crowd – have to avoid pitfalls of that kind. It is much simpler to call for the abolition of direct taxes altogether. The goal is to keep the taxpayer’s money where it belongs. Why settle for less?

The Netanyahu UN speech (YouTube) is widely accepted as a success. For the first time for two decades, certainly ever since the October 2000 war, Israel stands for its own.

Nice, isn’t it?

It’s always nice to hear that Israel has a right to exist and wage defencive wars whenever it finds appropriate. If you have a problem with that, Israel with stand for its own and tell you that calling for its annihilation is unheard of. The Netanyahu speech, if given right after the 1948 war of independence, would be considered as a success.

In 1948, Israel was a newborn political body, where some people didn’t like that, waged a war, got defeated, got their population kicked out, end of story. However, by 2009 the state of Israel has been losing wars for four decades consecutively (1970, 1973, 1982, 1987, 2000, 2006, 2009).

The UN – a political body that for some reason finds itself closely related to genocides all over the world – had published its report exactly because Israel is so weak. The UN report – dealing with the way Israel has acted in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead (December 2008 – January 2009) – tested Israel’s will to further destroy itself. After all, it worked in 1991 (following Israel’s inability to react to the Iraqi missiles shot during Operation Desert Storm). The UN justly identified Israel’s weakness, and initiated a move that ended up in the Oslo accord, and almost ended Israel itself.

Netanyahu should have taken these facts into account. Instead of playing the UN game (you give a speech, we take a further step towards ruining you), he should have pulled Israel form the UN. In addition, as the UN report deals with Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, it would be nice to launch a new operation, commemorating the UN report with additional killed terrorists.

I’d further suggest that from now on, The Gladstone report day – Sep-16 – will be a day of broad Israeli attacks on Gaza, a reminder to the entire free world for the proper way to deal with the UN.
